GOCONG

GOCONG

January 27 - April 30

Chris Gocong explores one of the central dichotomies of his life as an artist and his former career as a professional athlete in his first solo exhibition at Dama Gallery. This collection navigates both his optimistic magnanimity as an artist and his ambivalent perspective regarding his success in the NFL. The dichotomy is symbolized by the stark contrast in genre and mediums; through paintings, sculpture and wearable art. Whether depicted as single iconic portraits or in the complex abstract compositions, Gocong’s painstaking artisanal techniques express a life lived on a field but fulfilled in a studio. Both oppositional and parallel, they are reminders of the fragile vibrancy of life, prosperity and the inexorable passing of time.

Samuel Bayardo's artwork transcends traditional depictions of Mexico City, capturing its emotional complexities. In ‘A Timeless City’ he portrays the city as a living entity, embodying the desires and struggles of its inhabitants. His paintings emphasize the interplay between discord and peace, reflecting the city's paradoxes; bustling yet tranquil, modern yet steeped in history. Architecture plays a central role, reimagining buildings as characters within a grand narrative, pulsating with histories and stories.

HATS OFF

HATS OFF

November 4 - February 10

Photography, in its essence, is about revealing the soul of a subject and the artist. “Hats Off' embodies this truth, with each artist revealing the depths of their creativity and courage to explore new landscapes, applications, portraiture, abstracts, techniques and technologies within their medium. This exhibition dares to challenge the conventional, shedding light on how, at times, the most exceptional photographs emerge when artists let go of tradition and venture into uncharted territories.
